Miss Hattie’s Bordello Museum
If you’re looking for a tourist trap in the heart of downtown San Angelo, Texas, Miss Hattie’s Bordello is an option. This interpretive museum claims to be the building where brothel owner “Miss Hattie” operated from 1902 to 1952. Unfortunately, there is nothing historically accurate about the museum. The entire thing is just a tourist trap.
The building, formerly called Miss Honey’s Bordello, was not built until 1910. City records and insurance company maps show that the property was owned by Hatton by the time it was built. While the museum claims that the building was built in 1896, city records and insurance company maps indicate that it was converted into a bordello in 1902. Regardless of the origins of the building, it is likely that the original owners never returned to the area after the bordello was closed.
Lake Nasworthy
If you love fishing, then you will want to make a trip to Lake Nasworthy when traveling to San Angelo. The 1,380-acre reservoir south of San Angelo offers eleven public boating and fishing access points, and is dog-friendly as well. Visitors can also enjoy a day at the Goodfellow AFC Recreation Camp, which features boat rentals and camping areas. This hidden gem of a place is one of the best kept secrets in San Angelo.
San Angelo’s renowned River Walk also features outdoor sculptures and water features. Visitor centers also feature informational signs on the Concho River pearl and the city’s 12 freshwater mussels. A boating trip to Lake Nasworthy is a great way to unwind after a day of exploring the city. Guests can also board the Tule Princess Steamboat at Spring Creek Park, which offers hour-long excursions and private charters year-round.
